Welcome to the Micheldever village web site
Micheldever is a picturesque village, situated between Winchester and Basingstoke. It was primarily a farming community, although the number of people working in this industry has diminished greatly over the years
The village history is as long as anywhere in the British Isles. Prehistoric man was here, as were the Romans. Written history dates from the time of Alfred the Great in the 9th Century when Micheldever was the property of the King. The railway line from the South Coast to London came in the mid 1800's, and the station was built.
It used to be a very self-contained community, with several shops and trades in the village. Whilst a few people still work on the land today, many of the population commute to local towns or to London.
This web site will cover the communities of Micheldever Village, Micheldever Station and the hamlet of Weston Colley.
East and West Stratton are covered in the East Stratton Web site.
One of the attractions of living in the village is the number of groups and activities that exist. There is an active amateur dramatic society, a Wine Circle, Youth Club, exercise classes, etc.
We also have a village school, a shop, pub, church and two village halls.
